WATER CHILLER
MAKE DINESH SCIENTIFIC
DESCRIPTION:
A water chiller cooling unit is a device used to remove heat from a liquid via a vapor compression or absorption refrigeration cycle. This cooled liquid can then be circulated through heat exchangers to cool equipment or other processes, or it can be used to condition the air in a facility.
KEY COMPONENTS:
- COMPRESSOR: Compresses the refrigerant, raising its pressure and temperature. The high-pressure refrigerant then flows through the condenser.
- CONDENSER: Usually air-cooled or water-cooled, it removes heat from the refrigerant, causing it to condense into a high-pressure liquid. The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the refrigerant, cooling it as it expands.
- EVAPORATOR: Absorbs heat from the process water or air, causing the refrigerant to evaporate and thus cool the water or air. The cooled water, or air, is then circulated to the target area.
- Refrigerator: The working fluid that cycles through the chiller, absorbing and releasing heat.
- PUMP: Circulates the chilled water or glycol mixture through the system.
- COOLING TOWER (IF WATER-COOLED): Rejects heat from the chiller to the atmosphere.
Types of Water Chillers:
- AIR-COOLED CHILLERS: Use air to dissipate the heat from the refrigerant. Suitable for smaller applications or where water is scarce.
- WATER-COOLED CHILLERS: Use water from a cooling tower to dissipate heat. More efficient than air-cooled chillers and suitable for larger applications.
- ABSORPTION CHILLERS: Use heat (often from steam, hot water, or combustion) instead of mechanical energy to drive the refrigeration cycle. It is often used in facilities where waste heat is available.
APPLICATIONS:
- HVAC systems are used in commercial buildings, hospitals, and schools to provide air conditioning.
- Industrial Processes: Used in manufacturing plants to cool machinery, process fluids, and products.
- DATA CENTERS: Maintain optimal operating temperatures for servers and other equipment.
