DESCRIPTION

Certain anisotropic materials those with distinct optical characteristics in different directions experience this phenomena.
ANALYZER AND POLARIZER:
- The polarizer and the analyzer are the two polarizing filters that make up the polarizing microscope. The analyzer is situated above the objective lens, while the polarizer is positioned beneath the specimen. The direction in which polarized light flows through the specimen is managed by these filters.
CONDENSER AND OBJECTIVE LENSES:
- The microscope is equipped with a specialized condenser designed for transmitted light and a set of objectives optimized for polarized light observations. The objectives are carefully aligned to maintain polarization.
BERTRAND LENS AND COMPENSATOR:
- Some polarizing microscopes include a Bertrand lens, which is used for examining conoscopic interference patterns. This lens is often accompanied by compensators, such as quarter-wave plates or retardation plates, to introduce controlled phase shifts for better analysis of birefringent materials.
