COMPONENTS
BOMB (COMBUSTION CHAMBER):
A sturdy, sealed metal vessel (usually made of stainless steel) designed to withstand high pressures.
Contains the sample to be combusted.
Equipped with an oxygen inlet to ensure complete combustion of the sample.

SAMPLE HOLDER:
A small crucible or cup that holds the substance tested.

IGNITION SYSTEM:
An electrically heated wire or fuse that ignites the sample.

WATER JACKET (OUTER VESSEL)
Surrounds the bomb and contains a known quantity of water to absorb the heat released during combustion.

THERMOMETER OR TEMPERATURE SENSOR:
Measures the temperature change in the water with high precision.

To determine the number of calories per gram in food, animal feed, coal analysis, waste product analysis and other applications

PRESSURE GAUGE (OPTIONAL)
